Welcome to Rockpool Tank UK – a blog dedicated to our journey of creating and maintaining a native marine aquarium, filled entirely with species collected from the stunning beaches and rockpools around the UK.

We’re based in the North West of England, and what started as a fascination with local marine life has grown into a full-blown passion project. Every creature in our tank – from blennies and prawns to starfish and crabs – has been responsibly and ethically gathered from the shores we explore.
Importantly, not all of our tank residents stay forever. Many are given a relaxing holiday with an all-you-can-eat buffet while we enjoy their company and study their fascinating behaviours up close. After a time, we often return them safely to the very rockpools and beaches they came from, allowing them to continue their lives in the wild, hopefully a little wiser and well-fed, with one hell of a story to tell their their pals!

This blog is our way of sharing what we’ve learned, offering practical advice, and documenting the ups and downs of keeping a UK-native marine tank. Whether you’re a beginner thinking about starting your own, or just curious about what lives in the tidal pools of our coastline, we hope you’ll find inspiration, tips, and maybe even a few surprises here.
Thanks for visiting – and if you’ve got questions, stories, or your own tank to share, we’d love to hear from you.
In the meantime, enjoy this video of feeding time in the tank!
